OUR BOX/BAGS CONTENTS POLICY
Our first priority
is to put as much of our own crop in our boxes as possible througout
the growing season. We will be extending our growing space this year to
include outdoor space and our aim is to extend this further over coming
months (see our newsletter).
We will then incorporate bought-in produce in the following
order of priority:
-
Local
(40 mile radius). We have a number of local suppliers, mainly in the
Pilling area.
-
Regional
(where we are unable to buy local produce due to its unavailability) –
Lancashire and Yorkshire.
-
British
produce.
-
European produce (out of season in this country
particularly in the winter)
-
Rest of the world
(mainly citrus and exotic fruit)
BREAD, EGGS, MILK AND SHOP ITEMS
As a box/bag customer, you can add on bread, eggs and milk to
your box/bag orders. You can also add on a couple of items from our shop
(maximum of 2).
'SPECIALS'
We currently add on a service charge of 50p to the cost of
boxes/bags where a customer prefers to exclude/add certain vegetables or
fruit. This will remain the same.
CHOICE CUSTOMER SERVICE
This service offers the best of all worlds. As a Choice
Customer you are able to order exactly what you want in the way of
vegetables and fruit and any number of items from our shop. We have a very
wide range of products in our shop, both dry, tinned, packeted and chilled.
The range allows customers to stock up on all their organic basics and add
in some extra, more exotic items from time to time.

NEWS

OPEN DAY
13 JUNE 2009
A date for your diaries. Our
Open Day this year will be on Saturday 13 June. Come along and see your
food growing in our glasshouses, in compost manufactured on site from
local household green waste. You can also see our Forest Garden and the
exotic fruit growing there. See also the bio-diesel plant producing the
fuel that drives our delivery vans. There will be a range of other
activities going on including tasting, craft workshops, information
about organic growing and permaculture, and activities for
children.
THE HUNGRY
GAP
In recent weeks, we have
been able to put our own crop into your boxes: leeks and purple
sprouting broccoli in particuar, along with some chard, spring greens,
spinach, mixed salad leaves and herbs. Spring greens, rocket and mixed
salad leaves are still going into some boxes, but we are now entering
what is commonly called the ‘hungry gap’. This is traditionally the
period in between the end of the winter-stored crops and the new year’s
crops coming through. Stored locally-grown potatoes are available but
the quality is not always good. Carrots and onions have to be imported.
It is also the time when there is a bit of a hiatus in between our early
crops grown over the winter and the growth of crops seeded and planted
out this year. The range of produce available, particularly in
accordance with our policy to provide you with locally grown or UK
produce, is very limited right now. So, please bear with us. We continue
to make every effort to provide you with quality and variety. You can
look forward to much more own crop from our two sites at Clapham and Gisburn and locally grown produce sourced from Whetherby and Pilling in
the coming months.
ORGANIC COMPOST....ORGANIC
COMPOST....ORGANIC COMPOST....ORGANIC COMPOST....ORGANIC
40L bags at £3.50. You can either collect from us or we will
deliver with your fruit and vegetables.
Our compost is produced on
site from green waste collected and delivered to us by Craven
District Council. We are now completing the cycle - community green
waste turned into compost and either used to grow vegetables that go
back to the local community or compost to go on local community
vegetable gardens.
